I deeply respect law enforcement because I deeply know that when the shit really hits the fan, it’s them who you have to call for assistance.
But when it’s them you have to start barring and blockading your door against, worrying that they’re going to barge in for no real reason in the middle of the night, times have changed around here for some of us.
Such things have happened in my neighborhood too recently – and there are many who say such things will start happening again soon, in earnest.
The world has never been a safe place for anyone – just ask all those folks who used to have to spend so much of their time keeping their eyes peeled for saber-toothed tigers around every bush, tree, rock, and boulder.
It was so hard to spend time scrolling on your phone when the big cats were out to get ya.
No wonder we find cats’ eyes to be so weird and eerie (as well as cute and cuddly).
Even now, too much comfort and complacency is a great killer in the good ol’ USA.
FUCK ICE indeed – especially if you have a heart of ice – no matter which side you’re on.
END NOTE/S:
I was born in Dearborn, Michigan, USA, which is the town where Henry Ford invented that thing we now call “the car.” In my birth town currently, over fifty percent of the population reports Middle Eastern or North African ancestry, which means it has one of the highest percentages of that type of population in the entire country. I very much embrace such diversity, even though I also know it can cause problems, especially for the ones who get kicked out of the place/s they used to live, which happens here in the USA, just like anywhere.
Regarding ICE barging into my apartment in the middle of the night, mostly I’m worried that if they did so, my Siberian would attack them and they’d shoot him dead.
That is why I bar and blockade the door/s in the middle of the night, so I can hear ’em coming, if they want to come, even though I’m very much an American citizen, born and bred, and hardly ever left to go anywhere else but here.
Because my Sibe and I would die for each other without thinking twice, if that’s what it took.

As much as I respect and appreciate all that lawn enforcement does: walk into possibly lethal situations like riots, domestic disputes and the like, and for scarcely as much dough as I pay the guy who mows my lawn, I take sharp exception to paramilitary thuggery exemplified by ICE. You’re right, Dale, F them. This isn’t the America I learned about in social studies class in the fourth grade.

THANK YOU, BILL!
I think enough Americans agree with us on this that we just might be able to shut them down in the long run, at least enough. Until then, the struggle continues. It’s a kind of spiritual warfare, for sure.
To all the HONEST law enforcement out there, of which there are many, I say, very sincerely: thank you for your service.

The gap between what we are taught in school and what the reality is, is astonishing.
That remains as true today as it was then (one reason I know is because my kids just graduated high school last year).
Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln were not perfect by any means (who is?), and they were products of their time and place (like ALL of us), but they were also freedom fighters if anyone is or ever has been on this Planet. Freedom Fighters For The Whole Human Race: any color, all genders, all religions, etc. etc….

Hello DWB
We live in a reactionary world in which fools believe in stupid shit like Captain America and they believe that shooting Big Brother will fix everything. Vote, god damn it! Vote while you still can.
The only reason any of this nonsense is happening is due to the Progressives stunning disregard for the working class. Bernie Sanders said it best. In six months the mid terms can begin to end the break ins. Idiotic “heros” shooting Fat Boy, who suceed only in ending their pathetic lives in prison, and who somehow increase his limited popularity are not the answer. And there is a special hell awaiting anyone who messes with Boo!
We The People are always to blame for office holders. Government is ours. Put down our damn phones and exercise the powers we have and demand worthwhile candidates instead of people who believe in money only.
Great high energy post!

You are absolutely right. The so-called progressives in politics, academia, and the media are just as obsessed with the All-mighty Dollar as the conservative Republicans are and sometimes more so. Just listen to NPR, they never go more than 30 seconds without talking about money one way or another.
From the POV of the white working class in rural America who no longer have jobs and suffer from both poverty and meaninglessness, our current (so-called) Leader seems to be on their side (he is not on their side, he’s on his own side and on the billionaire’s club’s side). One of the greatest Snake Oil Salesmen of all time, he’s utterly fooled them.
The USA elevated people who were mere technocrats to the position of “geniuses.” Billionaires were worshiped as heroes by the elites and the common folk alike, for no other reason than that they have a lot of $. And so, suddenly we have the technocrats and the billionaires taking over the Oval Office: not a surprise, given how they were lauded and worshiped beforehand by ALMOST everybody!
All that is changing now, I do believe. But I think there are some tough times ahead, indeed.
And Europe needs to stop antagonizing Russia before something truly dire happens! I’m not saying I support the anti-democratic ideals of the Russian elites.
I am saying they have more nukes than the USA does. When you keep poking an angry bear with sticks, one of these days he’s gonna turn on you and tear your head off (and then there might be a nuclear winter).
Wake up, people, for the sake of the children and the animals!

Hi DWB!
Holy Mcshit! That first picture is awesome! Love graffiti. You are the man!
Aww and Boo! What a sweet and beautiful dog.
“keeping their eyes peeled for saber-toothed tigers around every bush, tree, rock, and boulder.” That’s what you call danger! Awesome!
I know wholeheartedly what you are saying about the flip side of the law. It doesn’t take much for those types to go full-ass storm trooper.
I used to think immigration control was logical and I made assumptions. Now I say leave those people be ICE!
Great and provocative writing and photography. Those shades of ice blue send it down the line–rather nicely.

Hi CJA!
I found that sign on a dam on the Des Plaines River twelve miles from downtown Chicago. No doubt it must have been put there at night, too. Lots of Americans are feeling that way these days, I do believe. In fact, I believe that probably at least seventy percent of Americans and maybe more. Definitely more than half. Maybe Americans’ desire to be free at heart will create enough of a backlash to keep America’s Brown Shirts at bay, at least somewhat and at least for a while. But if anyone thinks this kind of thing will completely go away after Trump, remember the Klan, I say! This kind of poison has been in our blood since day one. No wonder these killer chickens wear masks. And the Nazis didn’t just go after the so-called ordinary Jews; they also went after Einstein and Freud; and like we’ve said before, Kafka’s sisters like Freud’s all died in the concentration camps. Remember Anne Frank.
But after all, Americans are the ones who orchestrated the Boston Tea Party and we are the ones who birthed Henry David Thoreau and Martin Luther King, Jr.
There are some very rotten apples in American law enforcement at all levels. But there are honest peace officers in these parts, too!
You are the hardest-hitting short story writer in America right now, and a large part of that is because you understand the outsider’s mind, like Albert Camus and the other French Existentialists did.
That micro fiction you recently submitted to the Springs has resonance! It stays in the mind, or grows in the mind.

PS
Taking the really bad bad guys off the street is one thing (because there really are some really bad bad buys) but beating up on innocent people who just don’t happen to have the right papers is another! Plus, these folks pick all our food! Crops are rotting in the fields because there’s no one else who will do it, literally.
