When Big Ed the Woodpecker is glum
He beats the chimney cap like a drum
Our boy suffers from small bird syndrome
He longs to be King of the scrumly scrum

Big Ed envies the mighty Eagles
They don’t put up with Seagulls
It’s Bang! Zoom! Straight to the Moon!
For the selfish Me-Gulls

Big Ed is in love deep and fancy
A whippoorwill has got him romancy
Her name is McGill, she calls herself Lil
But everyone knows her as Nancy

The Moving Hoof has heard from Rocky Raccoon
He has promised lawyers, many and soon
She laughs and scoffly scoffs as she tells him
He may go and suck by the banks of his own saloon

I love how this section shows how Birds are people!
Walking outside with Boo just now two minutes ago, I was startled as a small gray and blue flicker-type bird shot out of nowhere from a bush somewhere, swooped down very low, and shot over me, right above my head, so close to my hair that I could literally feel it, and this seemed like some kind of message (from or through the bird) if anything ever did.
Don’t have any idea what the h-ell that message was, but I do believe what Carl Jung said which has now been popularized, which is both a good, and a bad, thing: “EVERYTHING happens for a reason.”
The way you incorporate the Beatles lyrics for your own reinvented riddle-like purposes (I mean the way the Hoof does) is nothing short of poetic brilliance at the height of the highest levels like the best birds!
And, this pome (what James Joyce and Jack Kerouac both sometimes called poems) is nothing short of hilarious, AND intriguing!
Hosts of lawyers showing up can NEVER be a good thing! Shakespeare himself liked and admired everyone, even the worst and most villainous among us, and yet it’s clear from his writing that he hated lawyers, as H Bloom pointed out (many times).
Having dealt with my own share of this self-serving and parasitical brood on Planet Earth, I gotta say it doesn’t pain me too much to agree with him.
NOT that there aren’t exceptions – Wallace Stevens was a lawyer.
Thanks again!

Hello Dale
Feeling a touch better this morning, but still a bit behind the curve.
Thank you for your wonderful comments, I only wish I could think up an equally sparkling reply. Still they, and you, are greatly appreciated!

Hilarious and yet, when you hear them out in the woods gossiping and arguing it’s so believable. Excellent – dd
