Saragun Verse: Every Line Sells a Hoary Glory

i

Money shoots up veins and noses

And from bar brawls to city jails

It catches Tigers by the Jim Crow-zus

Don’t go out unless you bring nuff bail

ii

Money dropped on spats and bolos

Adult diapers and bikini waxes

It buys hits on mafio-so-sos

Sooner or later we’re all game for whack-zus

iii

Money is what bellows louder

Than the crow of the power cock

Grind dem bones into fine powder

Then sneak it from hull to dock

iv

Money drives Rats in the river

Who swim faster than the fed

They earn evil gold that quivers

The green orafices of the dead

v

Money is what we are after

It’s a lie to counterfeit

We are invested by the master

As its old age benefit

vi

And yet money can play the hero

When at last the check has cleared

All them crooked numbers and zeroes

Following a faith backed sum so dear

vii

Two for one indulgence funnery

Glitter wacko-jacko clerics devour

Best to get thine child to a nunnery

Ere the Vicar’s bitcoin is empowered

  1. I forgot to mention this before–Anytime you see “Saragun Verse” you may blame me for the content. I have a mental thing against signing for such–not shame, but this strange thing that began for no reason. Being wildly superstitious I often follow such whims. To the point I won’t sign this little note–though I would have great pity for a person who cannot figure it out from the clues.

Money is the System that dominates the entire world now, from one end to the other, up and down, and all around. Many people in the world cast stones at THE USA for being so wealthy, yet every single country in the world, and ESPECIALLY the wealthiest countries, have fattened themselves by using the USA’s bank. So they are hypocrites for casting stones while living in glass houses. The USA let itself be ruined by acting as the world’s bank. Globally it is a monetized society now and individual leaders have ZERO to do with it. If one corrupt leader goes down, another corrupt leader will pop up and be shoved into place just as fast, which is something you yourself have pointed out in the past. And you were right as rain about that.

This is a thinking person’s poem and the language use in it is amazing, the way it combines “high” and “low” registers (or formal and colloquial language).

The speaker in the poem is not airing petty grievances and circling around obvious and stereotypical obsessions. Instead, the speaker is vast and invisible, a knowing force that sees all sides of an issue at once.

How rare that is! Almost everyone sees various issues from only one angle. But the truth is that there is no angle, and there certainly is not only one angle. Raging at the machine is fine in its place but it also misses so many things. Your poem doesn’t miss anything. It contains its whole subject in a Shakespearian and Wallace Stevens and Emily Dickinson kind of way. It’s always a wondrous surprise to be surprised by your verses.
