Nude Studies by Dreck: (Please Do Not Involve Yourself if You Are Freaked Out By Naked Women)

(Ed. Note: I find it sad though not at all startling when people freak out over nudity. Somehow we have been trained to hate ourselves. I’m afraid that the various churches and faiths (not all–Thelema is okay with it) are responsible for it. And like war, it has caused much in the way of pain, shame and fear. We are lucky to have smart readers, but if anyone should feel a bit “off” from viewing these, I would say that you should ask yourself why? LA)

I found the nudes quite beautiful. I see nothing mysterious, arcane or untoward about the human form. In fact, for four years during my undergraduate studies at university, I worked as a life (aka “nude”) model for the art department. By the end, I had posed so often that I felt I could teach a beginning-level course in sketching, but probably I was only full of it. Nice showing.

You have the most amazing use of colors. Your pastels are vivid and you are able to convey the emotions of the subjects with the stroke of your hand. I am envious of your talent, but I am glad you have it and are inclined to share it!

Dostoevsky said, “THIS IS REALISM, ONLY DEEPER.” The way your pictures seem both real and dreamlike at the same time creates a very unique and striking effect. Yours is visual art that really is ART. Like Picasso’s work, yours has an honest, authentic, objective simplicity to it that could only have been achieved if the artist was in complete control of his materials, at the height of his game.

This work, for me, also resonates with the pictures of Modigliani. Not that it is overly influenced by him at all, but something in your work conjures up the same kind of dreamlike realism or realistic fantasy that was contained in the work of that one-of-a-kind master.

I envy the talents of very few artists any more. You are an exception in that regard. I’ve watched the videos about your art, so I know how you do it; but I still don’t know how you do it. Wonderful work, full of humanity and beauty, the two things Saragun Springs is all about. Thanks for letting us feature this material.

There will always be trolls in this world who run out on the stage and expose themselves, trying to steal the spotlight. It’s sad but it is a fact of life; and it only makes some of us that much more grateful for work that is honest, real, humble and authentically artistic.
