Nine Things Boo Be Do that Freak Me Out

Number nine, number nine, number nine, number nine…” – The Beatles

When I say “freak me out,” I mean in a good way.

(To the elite few of you who want to review who Boo is, see photos.)

ONE: Sometimes constantly watches me from across the room of the book-strewn apartment as if to make sure I’m all right (until he dozes off, which happens just as frequently).

TWO: Catches wild squirrels in his mouth between his fangs, doesn’t chomp down upon them, drops them down onto the ground and sets them free, then watches them flee (run away) without going after them.

THREE: Leaps into my lap when he gets scared.

FOUR: Hides behind me when he gets scared if I’m standing up.

FIVE: Puts himself between me and whoever it is when someone is approaching us at night along the sidewalks or in the alleyways of the Chicagoland area we roam through (or wherever we roam through). If it’s more than one person approaching, becomes even more fearlessly vigilant.

SIX: Follow verbal commands when they, paradoxically, are not even spoken aloud by me. (In other words: READ MY MIND.)

SEVEN: Refuse to follow commands just as often, and act like he thinks it’s funny, and in his own way, I do believe he thinks it’s funny.

EIGHT: Run so fast that he literally morphs into a black-and-white blur that looks like it’s flying across the ground. Fastest dog I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen many.

NINE: Stare into the distance while intuiting the Spirit World.

(Leading one to the astonishing conclusion that if dogs could talk, we wouldn’t even be able to believe what they would tell us…)

(Bonus point: can climb fences and trees when he wants to bad enough…)

Boo is a gorgeous dog, Leila. Your fondness for him–if that’s a strong enough word for it–is endearing. Question: did you name him after the canine character in the 1960s song by Lobo, “Me and You and a Dog Named Boo”?

    Hi Drifter

Boo sure is photogenic! He has beautiful colors and markings. Out on your adventures, he probably has to sign a lot of autographs. Dogs are good people. They just want to be happy and make people happy in this world gone wrong.

Great descriptions of Boo’s ways…. He looks like he could fly!

“Run so fast that he literally morphs into a black-and-white blur” Excellent!

Boo sounds like he has a generous side, concerning the wild squirrels. But you do point out he has fangs.

Glad he is protecting you and you are protecting him up in the big city.

When dogs look off like that it is a mysterious event. It becomes very obvious that they really are seeing something that we cannot.

I like your sign on the gate. It’s not threatening, but lets people know you don’t want your dogs to get loose.

Looks like springs’ coming early. Have to say prayer for peace.

      Hi CJA!

“A mysterious event” is a wonderful way of describing what happens when dogs do that. You have the esoteric knowledge needed to know that, and you have the ability with words which makes you able to boil it down. The Animal Kingdom thanks you at all levels and the Spirit World, too. Native Americans were right when they attributed such magical properties to animals.

Swedenborg, the great Swedish scientist and mystic, believed that there is ALWAYS A WAR RAGING JUST ABOVE OUR HEADS that actually goes down into our brains. Demons are there trying to attack and kill us while angels fight them trying to protect and save us. And we are given the choice, the power of FREE WILL, although we often get slammed with things before we know what hit us, too. The above description sounds perilously close to madness and yet, sometimes madness might be closer to reality than so-called “sanity” is. I think animals are definitely attuned to the Unseen World in a way that only they could be or should be. They are messengers who use Silence as their medium. No pun intended. It’s up to us to listen.

I’ve always been fascinated with the relationship (friendship) between William Butler Yeats and Helena Blavatsky.

The picture of the gate photo is at my cousin’s place in far north Wisconsin in the little town of Woodruff. My cousin and her husband have three dogs so Boo gets lots of time running around with his cousins when we visit up there (he’s twice as big as all three of those other dogs put together). That area also has TONS of wolves and black bears. Boo would be able to fly over that fence in two seconds flat if he really wanted to but in general I’ve managed to train him a little better than that – for his own safety.

      Thanks again!

W.C. Fields warned performers about sharing the stage with cute children and Dogs!

Still, your observations are witty and wise even though you must take the second chair to the Husky Master. Such a lovely person, is Boo. And I mean person. Anyone with a consciousness, who has humor, curiosity and knows how to work a pose, no matter the species, is a person in my book.

For the first time ever, daylight savings time caught me unawares! Being retired the loss of the hour does not make much difference except breakfast is closer, which is always a fine thing.

      Leila

I woke up later than I thought I did and I wondered why that was until I finally realized the why. Such are the virtues of spending so much time alone lost in one’s own little world.

Bucephalus says thank you many times and with many tail wags!
