Saragun Verse: The Power of Rabble Part One

The Learned Introduction

This Week the Springs presents a six part epic poem featuring the billigits as the knights of orgone (for persons unfamiliar with the orange flying fellows about a foot and a half tall, they eschew capital letters and most punctuation marks).

Orgone energy is called a pseudo science that often involves rain making. The great Kate Bush wrote a song about it and starred in a video with the equally great Donald Sutherland about, amazingly, forty years ago.

In the poem our Apprentice Witch to the Great HeXopatha Eira Lysbyrd performs as Eira Borgia (she chose the name for reasons she hasn’t shared). Still a Witch in the poem, Eira (perhaps a bit of a pill) has been let down by love and summons the four knights of orgone (the billigits) to find her a trustworthy soulmate.

On earth Orgone boxes attract and store Orgone energy fields. In Saragun Springs a telephone booth (pictured above) holds the Orgone of the realm in which, along with occasional rainmaking, is under the short but effective arms of the billigits.

Eira believes the billies and the magic phone booth will find her love or at least get her a date with someone she won’t change into a Toad, as was the case with the guy who jilted her in the poem.

For those of you already confused, please relax and remember that most epic poem writers do not try to explain the content of their masterpieces. Moreover, poetry does not have to make sense. It gives smart people a riddle to solve.

Leila

Now we begin the journey…..

i

Silence your lips and snarls begone

Hear this tale of heroes orgone

Energy booth warriors foretold in myth

Who stand no insult sprayed by lisp

ii

Four billigit soldiers in orgone armor

Flew forth in antique square honor

“i say four dynamic red mars are we

i, myself, and of course you three”

iii

They knew not the cause of the tussle

Except inside every castle is the same cold hustle

But no one lone billigit can be called upon

You get them all and they stand as one

iv

And so here we are at the start of the journey

Under a fawn sky like a Cow of Guernsey

But after a while the question poses

Why are meek billies in war clotheses

(end part one)

Ok, I believe I may be almost uniquely qualified to play the smart-arse interpreter here, because my old pal, Tom, lived across the road from a house with an orgone box in south London in the 1970’s and I once spent a whole summer in a tent in the same field as a Guernsey cow. Poised/posed for the next instalment…

I would love an orgone booth. I like odd things like that, even changed my closet into a camera obscura for a story once. But my office is more than a tad cluttered.
Guernsey Cows are great persons. We lived near a dairy farm when I was young. A small farm in which the “girls” were like family.

The quest that is set up in this section of this epic poem has great possibilities within it. Can’t wait to see how it all turns out; suspense has been created. The combination of medieval romance and contemporary imaginative literature setting that draws in elements like Kate Bush videos already gives this poem an enduring, far-reaching quality (like Shakespeare the magpie). The humor which envelopes all has an irony to it that is so large it would be lost on more simple-minded readers, which is wonderful.

Also want to compliment all the names of your characters. HeXopatha alone is itself a kind of poem, and the same or similar could be said for all the names of all the characters, creatures, and critters in your realm/s. Firstly, the names simply sound good. Secondly, they obviously have meanings beyond themselves that are not overly obvious, giving the names that poetic quality to an even greater degree. Thirdly, the names themselves seem to conjure up who their characters are, which wouldn’t be possible without the first two but is also a separate category unto itself.

I think William S. Burroughs spent time in an orgone box while trying to detox himself…somewhere in Texas…

Orgone has always been admired. Although I admit to having an orgone pyramid on my desk (two inches) it is something I do not necessarily believe in but do support because it is positive. Unlike the government who meddled as though it is a ruling force. The Bush video stuck with me–she is one songwriter not stuck on “you” songs. She thinks, and it is a shame that makes her an outlier.

  3. Hi Diane

Yes the boys still wear the slippery slippers. Each one has a little Conquistidor hat and breast plate with his name on it, when in orgone mode. Their feet are human but just three toes. Thumb plus two fingers for hands. No swords although there’s been talk.

    Thanks again!

    Hi Leila

I liked this line very much, “Except inside every castle is the same cold hustle”

How true. This could be the theme of the battle. This eternal power dynamic that wants to enslave. A King is just another word for dictator.

“A kinder gentler machine gun hand,” (Neil Young).

Orgone: I wonder if this was the inspiration for “The force will be with you.”

Thank you. Yes, I think that a lot of the meditation philosophies popular in the 70’s (transindental meditation (sp.) or “TM” was the big one) went into the Force, which probably dates back centuries in Bhuddism and such.
I only have an issue when someone gets rich off such beliefs.
      Thanks again

  5. The author must be over twenty – The only other time I can remember hearing “pill” as an insult is from my mother born in 1914. Orgone boxes are also a blast from the past. Probably the orgasmatron from a Woody Allen movie is unrelated.

Good news – MAGA is being repudiated in today’s US elections.

Mirthless Doug currently dealing with potential clabbers for which I’ll get too much credit.

    • Hi Doug
“Bitter little pill” has been around as long as I have. Been called one enough. Good to see Maga go, but would rather see effective people come in, not the ones as responsible for Trump as his voters.
