Day Two of the Saragun Pygmy Goat v. Lamb Civil Poem Smackdown (please note, each poem contains quatrains but the number of quatrains varies. Moreover, some may question why one Goat will take on an entire species. Good question. )

“Woolly Mam-Mouth” by Dame Daisy
i
There was once a useless goofball named Joe
Who fell in deep love with a Doely Doe
Mauve was a Deer three times his sizely size
And he a Lamb quite dumb and googly eyed
ii
Joe did not know Mauve was a Deerly Deer
He thought she was a Lamb all sheerly sheared
No other Lamb could steer Joe to the truth
For the species has the IQ of vermouth
“Goats Float” by the Lambs
i
There is a Pygmy Goatess named Daisy
Her mind is cluttered and oh so lazy
She goes around besmirching her betters
And says Lambs cannot match her in letters
ii
Within the cluster of adverbs she slings
Fallacies as mean as Bumble Bee stings
Daisy continues to vex our highness
Who will rise and whip Goatly behindness
Oh my word – the temperatures rises and fists are being clenched – well, they would have been if any of the participants had fistly fists.

Thank you Diane
Who knew that poetry could escalate antipathy. Maybe this is how all wars should be fought!

William Blake, a great individualistic freedom fighter and friend of Thomas Paine, among other things, always said that the “real person” is always “The Imagination,” and if that’s true (and how could it not be?) then you are one of the most real artists of the word now at work in America, your Imagination is profound (and profoundly hilarious) and your vision/s stick with the Reader like no other. (And they are nothing if not “visions” and visionary, like “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”.)
If America breaks up into four or five different countries (the Northeast, the Midwest, the South, the West, the West Coast) instead of having one big “USA” one wonders who will take over as the single dominant force over the whole globe. Despite all the sins committed over the past 80 years (and there have been millions of them) the USA also managed to keep the lid on the next GLOBAL conflict. Now those good ole days are almost over. When the USA is gone as the world’s silent police force with the big stick, who will step into the breach? And will we miss the way it used to be, when the “last best hope for mankind” is gone? Were we wrong to think the USA should have been doing all that anyway, like Abe said we should be? And who would have defeated Hitler without us?

Hi Dale
I often wondered how come North America is only three nations. That happens no place else. The USA really should be at least four countries. Here in Washington we have a split personality. On the side of the Cascade Mountains, incl Seattle, it is a very liberal place, but it is dead red in the east. Hard to believe it is the same state.
Anyway, I think that poetry smackdowns are bettrr than guns. Yet there are those who feel progress requires killing.
Thanks again!

Ha! truth/vermouth – brilliant!
Kept goats for a while. They’re sneaky opponents: if they think you’re taking too long milking them, they’ll kick your pail over.
