(Co-Editor note: It is that time of year again, perhaps the best. “Seems odd that we should celebrate the macabre” is one of the dumbest lines I think I have ever heard. “Behold the beyond” is probably closer to the spirit and Spirits of this time of year. That, and the happy fact that Co-Editor DWB will be taking the controls for the rest of this fine month!–LA)

Wonderful contrast in colors–green especially. The run picks up the flow of life and possibly, by the look on KB’s face, the after. And I am happy that Boo can take his Elephant for a walk wherever he pleases.

Thank you, LA!
In Chicago, we need reasons to help us get through what’s coming, at this time of year. Always reminds me, too, of what’s coming in general all over everywhere to everyone and everybody eventually, exactly when being the only question mark.
I read something recently by an evolutionary biologist which said that a sense of humor came before language in humans. (Which means that some animals really can and do have a sense of humor, even though they can’t say so.)
Human-like creatures were laughing it all off even before they could talk! I think that’s (just) one reason why we celebrate the coming of darkness and cold (often with hilarity, wild costumes, silly things about gory corpses, and so forth).

Hi Leila and Dale
Yes the time of the spirits. I always like to watch scary movies.
These are great pictures! Dale, you have captured the weirdness of our society in bright psychedelic green, sunglasses, screaming red lipstick, and Buddy Holly specs on an elephant!
Getting Boo in the picture really shows the size of the elephant. That’s a good technique. Man that looks like a tourist attraction!

Hi Christopher!
The pink elephant was so popular nobody else was there, and the store that was attached to it was a collapsing (and abandoned) ruin. Can’t imagine why! Somewhere in the great state of Michigan. At least it proves that there really are pink elephants, even if they wear spectacles. Thanks for checking out these pictures!

Enjoyed your photographs, Dale. That pink elephant for years was along the route I took to visit my parents. It’s move around a lot!
